Omitron Supports the First LCRD DTN Experiment

Omitron supported the first Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking (DTN) experiment over the Laser Communications Relay Demonstration (LCRD). Using Bundle Protocol (BP), image files were successfully transferred between the optical ground station in California and the LCRD payload in geostationary orbit. The experiment demonstrated the store-and-forward approach needed for transporting data between a source and destination when there is limited end-to-end connectivity, a capability that is crucial in the future lunar communications architecture. The experiment team gained greater insight into DTN performance and showcased the potential for the LCRD platform to be utilized not just for optical and link experiments, but also for network and routing style experiments.

Omitron provides overall Verification and Validation (V&V) support, Integration and Test (I&T) support, software build test support, and Systems Engineering support to the Delay/Disruption Tolerant Network (DTN) Infusion Project.  As part of this task, the Omitron team developed the framework, software configurations, and test scripts that allowed automated execution of the first LCRD DTN experiment.
